| Introduction |
I am a very recent exile of North Dakota. I left the state about a month ago. While I did not go too far in terms of distance, the cultural differences are immense.
There are of course many reasons why we leave our state, for me it was the fact that I could not achieve gainful employment in my field of choice. So I was left to take my fairly affordable education that the taxpayers of the state help subsidize and go elsewhere.
I grew up wanting to leave the state, but as I finished college I found myself searching for excuses to stay. Alas, I did not come up with any and the bill collectors, heartless as always, do not care where a person lives. So I packed up and headed out to an unnamed locale.
The greatest difference that I have seen are in the people. Whether on the roads or in the stores, I have never personally experienced the type of inconsiderate individuals I have encountered in my time here thus far. While I have not broken down on the side of the road, I can not imagine that many people would think to stop and help as they do in our state.
Many people complain about what North Dakota does not have, but until they leave most people do not realize just how good we have it in North Dakota. |
